About Gjizselle
Meet Gjizselle, a wonderful 15-year-old girl who has a bubbly personality, a great sense of humor, and a sweet spirit. She is observant, affectionate, and enjoys connecting with the people around her. When she sees someone she knows, she may greet them with a fist bump or high five, and she loves showing affection by giving hugs. Gjizselle warm personality and joyful nature make her a special young lady to know. She communicates her wants and needs using a communication device and continues to build her skills and confidence. Gjizselle enjoys activities that engage her senses, especially blowing and playing with bubbles and exploring her sensory expandable tubes. She also loves being outside and looks forward to outings in the community. Whether she is enjoying an activity outdoors or experiencing something new, she benefits from opportunities to explore the world around her. At home, Gjizselle enjoys relaxing in her room and watching DVDs, with Milan being one of her favorites. She also enjoys a variety of cartoons and appreciates having familiar activities that bring her comfort and enjoyment.
Gjizselle is also working hard on developing her independent living skills. During a recent trip to the grocery store, she was able to choose snacks she wanted and even scanned her own items at checkout. Her social worker believes she has the capacity to participate in one-on-one work and be successful when paired with someone who understands how to teach her in a patient, encouraging, and individualized way. Gjizselle has even begun thinking about her future and has expressed interest in working with construction, becoming a cook, or working as a dishwasher. Her interests show that she is already beginning to imagine a future where she can contribute, learn new skills, and be part of her community.
More than anything, Gjizselle deserves a family who will see her potential and commit to helping her reach it. She needs patient, loving caregivers who will give her individualized attention, introduce her to new experiences, celebrate her accomplishments, and gently challenge her to continue growing. She needs people who will take the time to understand how she communicates and learns, advocate for her needs, and invest in her wellbeing, not just for today, but for the long term.
